Heater Cores and Blower Fans
Grand Am SE

How do you replace the heater core on a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am?

If it is anything like a 92 the heater core is inside the firewall under the center of the dash. It requires removing the center console to reach the plenum cover.

Drain the coolant.Be Prepared for a few skinned nuckels. First dissconnect your battery You will be working around wiring harness' so just Tobe on the safe side I would disconnect the battery. The easy part is removing both glove boxes, remove the console remove the covers under the steering wheel remove the cover surrounding the the radio and heater controls, now remove the first plastic cover it will have two ports going into the center console, you might have pull back the carpet on both sides to get it out. After you remove that cover you have to remove the next cover that hides the heater core. When that is removed you should see the heater core there are four bolts two top two bottom holding silver bands remove these and the heater core will be loose. When removing everything make sure you get all the screws I missed two hidden screws and broke the cover. Some are torx some are nut heads. Now that is the easy part the hard part is removing the heater hoses from the back fo the engine. If the You are sure the heater core is shot usually coolant on the carpet is a good indicator just snap the two plastic pipes going to the heater core. This will make it easier to access the hoses. There is no easy way to remove these is is a matter of determination and patience. I would never change a heater core without changing the hosesyou will see that it will be worth new hoses because you will not want to repeat this procedure again.

How many miles can a Pontiac T6000 go before it is done is 236K too many?

Dear God. You are living on borrowed time with that car buddy. You must have made a deal with the devil to get that car to 236000 miles.

With proper maintenance, I have owned vehicles with over 300,000 miles. 236,000 highway miles is nothing with today's cars if they are maintained well. When you get in the car, put the key in the ignition and turn it and nothing happens.....that's a good time to retire your vehicle.

I have a 1987 t6000 and it wont die I stop changing oil a few years back and that wont kill it

Air Conditioning and Coolant
Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning

Is it common for your air conditioner to leak freon?

Hi: The answer to your question is simply,,,, NO!,,, Any well designed and installed Air Conditioning Cooling unit will not leak Refrigerant (freon) as a norm. One particular and unscruplous contractor in my area was big on beefing it up to people that used him that replacing refrigerant in your system and adding to it for normal leakage was normal. Needless to say, he lives in a big house. Wanna hear something kinda fundy? I still occassionally service a 70 year old refrigerator that actually has never had any refrigerant added to it even. And believe it or not,,, its refrigerant media is sulfer. Kewl huh !!!!! Hope this helps: Jimiwane

How do you replace the speakers on the door of a 2007 Pontiac G5?

Ok i hope i can help, there is a cobalt forum out there on the web with pictures and instructions on how to take the door panel apart. The cobalt is the same as the G5. The interior door panel might be slightly different , but this will give you a good start.

Second is to think of the factory amplifier is set to run factory speakers which are not the same ohm's ( i believe) someone correct me if i am wrong and can add help. I am not sure of all the details, you should call your local audio shop and ask about this. If your using another speaker from G.M. that by all means go ahead and throw it in.

It may be best to look into an aftermarket amp. and run the new more power hungry speakers off of that. Find an amp with low level inputs or you will need a line level adapter.

There are other options including head unit replacement and running the speakers straight from that and by passsing the factory amp.

It can be a difficult task doing all of these thing i have mentioned. but if your not sure what your doing...Call a Pro

Is a Pontiac G6 front wheel or rear wheel drive?

Transmission Fluid
Grand Am GT

How do you check the transmission fluid on a 1999 Pontiac Grand AM GT?

I have a 2000 Grand Am and is probably the same. There is a 7/16 plug on the transmission case you have to be under the car to see it. it is located on the backside near the right axel. You take it out and put in transmission fluid till it comes out the plug hole. The fill plug is accesed from engine compartment, you will need a long funel to fill. Must take it to a Dealer. I believe there is a recommended 100,000 mile check, but not sure. Easest thing to do is ask a dealer.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am 3.4 V6 4 speed auto does not have a dip stick. According to the manual if the transmission is leaking fluid or shifting incorrectly take it to the dealer. Other than that the service interval for filter and fluid change is 50,000 miles. I hope this answers your question.

It is a challenging procedure to check the fluid. It must be done at a particular temperature. There is a plug on the transmission that is removed and when the fluid doesn't run out, it is full. The level will change however depending on the temperature of the fluid.

Where is the horn relay in a 1996 Pontiac Starfire?

According to automotivetalk.net it doesn't exist and as I just helped replace one I can concur. The information on that site; replicated below really helped and I had no problem replacing it at all.

from: AutoWhiz.com relayi am not sure they have a relay for the horn on that one.. i thought that the circuit has a horn, a fuse, then the steering wheel sliding contact, then the airbag.. usually when they stop working, its the horn wire right behind the drivers airbag, it pops out of its connector.Add a message posted: 2004-02-25 01:16:23

On the '96 Sunfire the horn relay is located under the dash behind the glove box. I was able to get to it by removing a small plastic plate held by three screws and reaching up and to the [passenger door] side under/behind the glove box.

How do you replace the fog light bulb in an '01 Pontiac?

If it's like my '00 Grand Am- (I assume the GP and Bonneville are similar) jack the car up, and remove the splash guard under the front end; some of this is part of the wheel well, so you might want to remove a front tire.

Get under the car and I believe it's held on with a hand-screw.

Or... if you have the intake resonator removed, take out the headlight and access it from above. for help see the links www.gaownersclub.com www.n-body.net

Pontiac Firebird
Pontiac Trans Am

What happened to the Pontiac Firebirds and when will Pontiac continue making the Firebird?

What happened to Firebirds is that they were outsold by Ford Mustangs and didn't give Pontiac a big enough market share in the segment. In other words, the bean-counters killed it. It will come back when someone comes up with a concept that they can convince Pontiac management will make money. In the mean time, check out the GTO, or the soon to be introduced Solstice to get your Pontiac "excitement" fix. Darkfriend adds:

They quit making them in 2002, along with the ever popular Camaro. The Camaro has been reintroduced in 2010 and has some characteristics of both Camaro and Firebird. The Firebird will likely never make a comeback.
