Install the new points, reassemble the cap, etc., hook up a dwell meter, start the engine, use a 1/8" Allen wrench to adjust the points for 30 degrees dwell.
to adjust points, turn the engine over until the cam in the distrubutor comes up to the tang on the set of points. then gap the opening on the points at .019 and tighten the screws holding the points. turn the eng. over to the same position and re-check the gap setting to confirm .019. good luck, and careful you don't hurt your back leaning over the engine. Chevy's are tough with the dist. in the back of the eng.
( you will see a small slot in the base plate of the set of points, this is so you can put a screw driver blade in it and move the point opening to get the .019 with a feeler gage. tighten the screws holding the points slightly so the points will not move too freely while adjusting.) good luck first time is the toughest.
you can turn the eng. by putting pressure on the fan belt, and turning the fan at the same time.

a 1973 Chevy truck has HEI Answer And if it does have points, say not the original engine, its .018-.019 will do.
26-30 degree dwell or adjust points to .017 with a feeler gauge.
The bumpers from a 1970 Chevy Nova SS will not fit a 1973 Chevy Nova SS without modifications. While the two models share some similarities, the bumper designs and mounting points changed between these years. If you're considering a swap, you'll likely need to adjust the mounting hardware or brackets to achieve a proper fit. Always check compatibility with specific parts before making any modifications.
