Remove the left rear wheel. The clutch cable runs along the left side of the transmission to a lever near the top of the bell housing, close to the engine/trans connection. There is a wing nut that adjusts the cable at that lever.
How I have to do for replace a little bulb on the ODO speedometer cable on 1973 Super Beetle ?
The cable will cost anywhere from $5.00 to $10.00 US depending on the source.
i own a 1973 super beetle and when i bought it i had the same problem. we fixed it by replacing the speedometer cable on it. the cable runs from the front, driver-side tire and goes in to the back of the gauge it gets a little tough unless you have tiny hands but that fixed it for me.
To adjust the tow in and tow out you must adjust the tie rods. You must first break loose the nut then twist the tie rod until the right adjustment has been made.
The 1975 regular Beetle windshield will fit the 1971 Super Beetle.
If you look at the front suspension of any beetle you can tell if it is a super or non-super beetle. If there is a McPherson front suspension then it is a super beetle. If there is a torsion bar front suspension then it is a non-super beetle.
The super beetle was not put into production until 1971, there is no such vehicle as a 1964 super beetle.
If it is like the 72 beetle, Have someone hold the the carb throttle open to give you some slack in the cable, then hook it in from the passenger side. If you hook in from the driver side it will come up done trust me
If the cable is frayed or has already snapped, you will need to replace it. There's no amount of duct taping or super gluing that can save this one.
This is a two-person job.Person one goes under the car and looks at the clutch lever on the transmission. Is there a great big wing nut on it, or two 13mm nuts? If you've got the nuts, you loosen the outer one so you can turn the inner one, which adjusts the clutch, before retightening the outer one.The other person gets in the car and holds the clutch pedal down about half an inch. Then the person underneath tightens or loosens the nut until it's just touching the clutch lever.
“looking to see if the 72 VW I own is a Beetle or Super Beetle? VIN # 1122369336”
A Super Beetle with a manual transmission has four forward gears and one reverse. A Super Beetle with an Autostick transmission has three forward and one reverse.
