Try different types of seeds since different birds prefer different types of seed.
I found that black sunflower seeds attracted finches whilst mixed wild bird seed tends to attract sparrows and tits.
Adding a bowl of live mealworms, or a sprinkling of dried mealworms (both found in petstores) can also help to attract birds, especially robins and Blackbirds who particularly love these.
A lot of it is having the patience to wait. It can take a while if you live in an urban area, but once the birds find it, they will return. They tend to visit feeders more in Winter and Spring.
The trick is not to give up.
Keep it filled with nyger seed (thistle). Goldfinches and pine siskins are partial to this seed.
Put out feeders containing the small black oil sunflower seeds, and nyger seed, also called thistle seed. This will certainly bring in the finches.
Nope. This might scare them away if it's too loud. Putting out a bird feeder should attract birds.
Nothing. Anything in a feeder will attract many different birds (and squirrels, mice, rats, ...)
You can get different types of bird feeders. I have a wild bird seed feeder and peanut feeders, and they attract the blue tit and finches, but mainly blue tits
If your feeder is such that a large amount of seed is falling to the ground, yes it will attract rodents. You can either switch feeders or get a add on platform that catches the seed and stops it from falling to the ground, allowing the birds to eat it and not be wasted. I have added a link below for this type of product for your bird feeder.

The best way i think to attract wild birds is to get a bird feeder or bird bath from any garden shops and for the food at any pet stores or you could make a homemade bird bath with a few stones and an unwanted bowl, then just add water
Different birds like different things. Some like seeds, dried fruits, etc. Most birds eat insects, worms, and caterpillars. Birds also like stuff to build their nest such as twigs, fluff, and tiny branches, any soft things that a bird can pick up. If you are looking to attract them, I would get a bird feeder. If you like humming birds then you should mix sugar and water and put them in a humming bird feeder.
Do not put beech in a hummingbird feeder and present this as food to the birds, it will kill them.
Yes there are modified bird feeders for many birds, for example a hummingbird feeder has small holes for their different beaks. There is no bird feeder for all birds.
Sometimes it takes over a month for birds to find it.
Not in my experience. I put up a four perch feeder on a tree in myfront yard. A squirrel reached over to feed from it. I chased it away. The birds still came at feeding time to eat. I just wish there was a way to keep the House Sparrows away from it. They are so aggressive when they feed. Attacking each other and the Cardinals that I do attract. I extended the feeder out more to keep the acrobatic squirrel out and taped off three of the perches. This kept the crowding down and the cardinals have more to eat when they come now.
