Shut the whole server down and release another one.
The server is temporarily down. It will probably get fixed automtically. The host of the server should restart it. If that doesn't work, just wait a bit.
It happens when they TEMPORARILY (15 mins the most) shut down the server. It is usually because of updates etc. In other words, they restart the server. The famous sentence on Tfm: [SERVER] The server will restart in 2 minutes. Everybody hates it, but without it Transformice wouldn't be able to work properly. :)
Server 2008 doesn't automatically shut down; that would be counterproductive in a production environment. I would need more information as to why your server appears to be doing this. The only reason I can think of for a shutdown is if the server were not activated or was past the evaluation date on an evaluation copy of the server.
Hardening. Locked-down version of Linux = Hardened Linux Lock-down version of Tomcat: Tomcat hardening
For Servers the graphical desktop is not installed automatically; it has to be explicitly added after the Server software/OS has been installed. For Windows, a special stripped down version is known as Server Core. For Server 2008 Server Core cannot have a graphical desktop but for Server 2012 you can add it later.
To shut down a Windows 2008 Server Core System, at the command prompt type: Shutdown -s -t xx where -s = shut down -t xx = time to wait before shutting down in seconds, where xx =0 to 600 To shut down a Windows 2008 Server Core System immediately, at the command prompt type: Shutdown -s -t 0 where 0 = wait zero seconds (shut down immediately) To restart a Windows 2008 Server Core System, at the command prompt type: Shutdown -r -t xx where -r = reboot -t xx = time to wait before shutting down in seconds, where xx = 0 to 600 To restart a Windows 2008 Server Core System immediately, at the command prompt type: Shutdown -r -t 0 where 0 = wait zero seconds (reboot immediately)

Computers don't restart after shutting down. You probably have some setting on your OS which give the computer the command to always reboot. Change that setting.
