There are several ways to prevent the spread of micororganisms to prevent disease. First you have to know the mode of transmission, (Contact, droplet or airborne) and protect yourself by handwashing (hand rubs with alcohol work best), using masks (N-95 mask for airborne transmission) and by staying at least 3 feet away from a coughing/sneezing person as their droplets spread about 3 feet from them. Do not share needles/works as bloodborne pathogens have been known to transmit even when they become "dried".
