My personal experience with this mission is that it took me 4 attempts to win. So it was the practice of driving the car CJ had to use and learning the twists and turns of the course that got me there. Getting in front as soon as possible and using the odd short cut that presented itself, made it easier. Putting the foot down on the straights was important too. I can't see any other way around this mission other than practice.
