There are only three buttons to push: Middle, left, then right.
First the twig, then the sweatband (it looks like a ribbon), and last the item that looks like a paper napkin (he makes it into a cape).
Special Shortcut
To find the "easter egg" link to the Vanilla game, click the cape, twig, then ribbon, and watch the tree for the password and a button link to the Vanilla game. When the password (6438) is entered, you build a stack of character heads instead of the plant sections.
