How do you beat the challange mode on Super Mario Bros?

To unlock challenge mode, press start when you re not in a level and press

(L R L R X X Y Y). In this mode once you move forward in a level, you can't move back. You will see a red arrow on the lower screen if challenge mode is active.

(P.S. You have to beat the game to unlock it)
