If you are then the rock gym leader can be found in ythe first city you visit on your Pokemon journey.
To beat the gym leader i would recommend getting a shroomish in the forest just before the city with the rock gym in it.
The gym leader's Pokemon are at lvls 12 - 14 so get your shroomish up to about lvl 12 before going to the gym.
