How do you become an educational diagnostician?

To become an educational diagnostician in Texas, an individual must successfully complete an educational diagnostician preparation program, have practical experience during that preparation program, hold a master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, and have two years of classroom teaching experience in a public or accredited private school. (Texas Administrative Code, Title 19, Part 7, Chapter 239, Sub-chapter C, Rule 239.84)

A master's degree in special education or a related field is typically preferred by employing school districts. Some universities offer diagnostician preparation programs which include coursework on standardized, norm-referenced testing, interpreting, and reporting, formal and informal assessment, special education law and practice, evaluation and assessment of individuals with special needs, and consultation.
