On Facebook, simply "unfriend" the person. This is available on the left side of the "home" screen below the thumbs of your friends. To block the person, open their page in a new tab, and look in the same place for the block/report option.

No you can't. Facebook does not have the option to block your friends' news-feed of any application. A new option on your home page, however, allows you to select what kind of updates you wish to look at.
