How do you break up your dad and his girlfriend?

My first question would be, why would you want to do that in the first place? Are you so miserable that you can't or don't want to see your dad happy? Why is it that in so many cases a child of a single parent finds it so bad that the parent has a boyfriend or girlfriend?

Now do not misunderstand me, there are situations that this can be understandable, perhaps not acceptable or right, but understandable. Does this "girlfriend" treat you badly? Is she cruel to you? Is she just horrible and if so why?

Try to view it not just from YOUR perspective, but your dad's, as well as the girlfriend's. If you are having problems with the girlfriend, then try talking to her, find a meeting place and discuss what problems there may be. Try to understand things from a perspective other than your own.

I'm a step-dad and it's not always easy being the "step" in the family. Remarks like, you are not my real dad, or I don't have to do what you tell me because you aren't my dad, can be painful, but there has to be a common meeting ground.

Try to understand what is going on in your dad's girlfriend's mind, but at the same time, help her to understand what is going on in your mind and life. If this doesn't work, then you need to talk to your dad about it. However, do it respectfully, let your dad know that you want him to be happy, then explain the situation, let him know you are trying your best to get along with this person. If it isn't working let him know but do it with respect to not only your dad, but to his girlfriend and yourself.

The next and only other situation I can see is, do you feel that this girlfriend is treating your dad poorly? In this situation, more than likely you won't be able to do anything, it can be understandable that you want to protect your dad, but he is an adult. You can try talking to him and discussing what you see or feel, but more than likely if this is the case it is something he is going to have to find out on his own. Hopefully before too much hurt.

In the long run, try to look at it from all views. Why does your dad like this girl? Why does this girl like your dad? Why don't you like her? Why do you want to break them up? Think about your dad in this not just yourself : you deserve happiness of course, but so does your dad. Who will be hurting more if you break them up? You, knowing that you caused this pain to your dad or your dad, because you came between a chance he had for happiness and love?

I know this isn't answering your question, but I can understand how you feel, mad and sad and betrayed, but be happy for your dad for finding love again. She must make him very happy. And sometimes, you just have to suck it up, and be happy for the people you love, no matter how much it affects you.
