How do you build a model of a southern plantation?

My daughter is doing this for a school project. First, we are using a piece of foam board the size of poster board. Next, we used paper to layout where the required buildings and farm land would go. Then, we're going to use craft foam and cardboard to fashion buildings using tape. For the fields, we're using green modeling clay and will hot glue the plants to the foam board. For final touches, we're going to lay a thin layer of glue on the base and sprinkle dirt on it to simulate the ground. Also, we're going to use some twigs to make trees.
