My daughter is doing this for a school project. First, we are using a piece of foam board the size of poster board. Next, we used paper to layout where the required buildings and farm land would go. Then, we're going to use craft foam and cardboard to fashion buildings using tape. For the fields, we're using green modeling clay and will hot glue the plants to the foam board. For final touches, we're going to lay a thin layer of glue on the base and sprinkle dirt on it to simulate the ground. Also, we're going to use some twigs to make trees.
The southern colonies developed plantation agriculture primarily due to their fertile soil and favorable climate, which were well-suited for growing cash crops like tobacco, rice, and indigo. The demand for these crops in Europe created a profitable market, encouraging landowners to invest in large-scale farming operations. Additionally, the reliance on enslaved African labor provided a steady workforce necessary for the intensive labor required by plantation agriculture. This economic model became central to the southern colonies' economy and social structure.
The porch was a nice place to sit and overlook the plantation and usually a view of the river.
Building a new road in the wilderness would most likely be supported by a Southern plantation owner in the early 1800s.
