A cheap and easy way: Your wire must be firmly attached to one side of the space, and on the other be coated in a few layers oh Electricians Tape. You will alo need a buzzer, available at local hardware stores for this part- A wire from your powersource into a coil attached to the inside top of a clothespin. Now put the wires from your buzzer down to the bottom of this in a position where, if the clothespin is closed, you have a full circuit. Now, place the end of your tripwire inside the clothes pin, shutting the circuit. In theory (and my bedroom) when someone walks into this, the wire is pulled out, and the circuit, completed. As a bonus, this can all me mounted in a fairly small neat box to avoid live wires hanging around.
