Indoor fish ponds are a quick and rewarding project if you use a preformed pond. The rigid plastic ensures durability and no leaks if properly maintained. Waterfalls can be made with virtually anything from spare wood scraps to landscaping blocks from the garden. Build up blocks as support to the pond form before filling with water. Adding a fountain/filter kit is inexpensive and beautiful. Be sure to let the pond sit emplty for a day or so before you add any fish!! This gives the chlorine in all tap water time to dissipate ( otherwise your fish will suffer and possibly die). Netting placed over the pond especially at night can keep fish from jumping out of the pond( they do..believe me).Dont over populate your pond- a couple med goldfish or one or two koi is really all a small indoor pond should support. Change a few inches of water weekly and dont overfeed! Enjoy!!
Dig a hole with a shovel you have, put a plastic tarp in it that you already have, and fill it with water from a hose. You'll have to clean it weekly. Do it yourself - dig a hole the size that you want your pond to be, around the top edges dig away about a foot of soil so yau have like a step around the edges, then using very strong vinyl (Or several layers of vinyl sheeting) cover the whole area with the vinyl sheeting ensuring it is contoured to the ponds shape, around the top edge (The 1 foot step) place some natural stone ensuring sharp corners don't cut the plastic, you should try and make a firm even lip of stone surrounding the edge of the pond, when this is done start filling it with water, you can check to see which plants grow well in a pond and add fish etc. as long as there is "life" in the pond it won't go stagnant, an air pump could be added to oxygenate the water to avoid stagnation. Let me know how you get on !

If the pond is natural, you have to make landscaping decisions involving terracing, walls, etc., in consultation with a drainage expert. If the pond is man-made, you need to consult with a landscaper and make adjustments so that the pond has an overflow area with good drainage (e.g. a French drain).

When considering purchasing or replacing a pond pump for your water garden or a fish pond, make sure that it is large enough to provide the necessary amount of oxygen for the animals, are easy to install, energy efficient, and reliable. The cleanliness of your pond and the avoidance of algae and debris build-up are dependent on the maintenance, upkeep, and the right type of pond pump used. Ask supplier about the best recommended brand and size of pump that you will need and also the warranty of the equipment. Replacing parts can be very expensive in the long run; therefore, this information is very important.
