You have to first download the files from Gmail. You can put them anywhere on your hard disk. Then you can burn them to disk.

Please expand on the question more. Did you just 'drag the files' or did you burn them? You have to burn the files on to a disk. You cant just 'transfer them'.

If you're trying to make a movie DVD, use iDVD. If you're just trying to put files on a blank DVD: put the blank disk in the drive, drag and drop the files you want to it, then eject it. It'll burn automatically.
