Speed is defined as distance travelled per unit of time (for example, miles per hour, or kilometers per hour, feet per second, etc.). Momentum is mass times velocity. Velocity is not exactly the same thing as speed; it is the speed plus the direction. That way, two objects that are moving in the opposite direction have opposite momentum, and when the collide, the momentum can cancel (if they don't bounce apart) rather than adding up to twice the momentum. Actual calculations of these sorts of problems involves calculus, because speed and momentum can change continuously, so you need a mathematical system that is designed to deal with that kind of change.

How do scientist calculate an object's momentum?

An object's momentum depends on its mass, its speed, and the direction it's moving. If you know these numbers, you can calculate the momentum on your own. You don't need no scientist.

If kinetic energy is increased by 60 percent then momentum will be?

Kinetic energy is proportional to the square of the speed; use this fact to calculate the increase in speed (60% increase means an increase by a factor of 1.6). Momentum is proportional to the speed.

If momentum and mass is given how to find speed?

Momentum = mass x speed so speed = momentum/mass or V=P/m

Can you calculate the value of momentum in gram meter per second?

Sure. That's a perfectly good unit of momentum. So is (any unit of mass) divided by (any unit of speed).

How will you increase your momentum you run?

By increasing our speed because momentum is proportional to the speed

How will you increase your momentum as you run?

By increasing our speed because momentum is proportional to the speed

How is speed related to momentum?

Very, very basically, momentum is a combination of speed and mass of the object.

Does momentum mean speed?

Not exactly - momentum is more the build up of speed instead of speed itself. Speed is a measure of how fast you are moving, whereas momentum is how mcuh speed you're using.. If that makes sense. As defined by dictionary.com, momentum is force or speed of movement; impetus, as of a physical object or course of events.

How do you find the total momentum of 2 objects moving at the same speed in opposite directions?

(1) Decide on a direction that you will consider positive. (2) Calculate the momentum of the object that travels in the "positive" direction. (3) Calculate the momentum of the object that travels in the "negative" direction (the momentum should be negative). (4) Add both numbers algebraically.

As the speed of a rolling ball is increasing,the increasing speed is accompanied by?

momentum As the speed of a rolling ball is increasing, the increasing speed is accompanied by: a. increasing momentum.

What is the total momentum of the system before collision If two 0.5 kg balls approach each other with the same speed of 1.0 ms?

Momentum is mass times velocity. But in this case, you don't even need to calculate that: If I understand correctly, the balls have the same mass, the same speed, and they move exactly in opposite directions - so any momentum from one ball is exactly offset by the momentum of the other ball. In other words, if one ball has a momentum of +M, the other one will have a momentum of -M.

How do you find mass if you are given the momentum and the speed?

momentum = mass x velocity => mass = momentum / velocity
