One way to calm down an angry customer is to repeat what they are saying so they know they have been heard. Another way is to solve the problem and find a solution to whatever made the customer angry.
All customers have needs. They can become agitated when their needs are not met. You nead to qualify the customer. This involves asking many open ended questions. These are questions where the answer will not cost the salesperson the sale. ie "what brings you in to our store today." A closed ended question might be "what color do you like?" Ask "what do you have now?" What do you enjoy about your old model? educate the customer on whats new in the market. Ask "what features they would like on their new product." Decide what product would be good for them. Ask for the sale. Secure the sale and thank the client. A follow up call will turn the angry client into a customer for life, possibly even a friend. Just remember, a customer usually won't be angry if you are listening to them.

Give them something free of charge.
If the free thing did work, throw them out.
If you have an angry coworker, you need to try and just ignore them and talk to your supervisor about them. If you have an angry customer, you need to give them what they want.
If you think that you're on the urge of yelling back, just think to yourself to calm down. Tell your customer that you are trying your best to help them. Tell them that everything's under control. They'll be calmer if they know that things are okay.
The first thing that should be said is "I'm so sorry to hear that". When dealing with customers who are angry, the person taking the call should be calm and empathetic.
