Dogs: Make sure you buy a food bowl, a large pet bed, and a toy basket (so your dog has a chew toy which is very important). You should also get a ball but you don't need to. Fill up the food bowl and keep it filled at all times. Make sure you have a bathtub, because your dog will get dirty and need a bath or will get fleas and need a flea bath. Also, you will have to watch your pet's activity. When it starts chewing on furniture, make it stop and grab a chew toy from the basket. When it needs to go to the bathroom, make it go outside because otherwise they will go inside and your Sim will have to mop up a bunch of puddles. Make sure you play with your dog regularly, so they don't get lonely. Also, make sure you have a fence around your house, because from my experiences, when your dog goes outside to play, they don't stay near the house, they go wherever they want and wander around the neighborhood. Also, lock the gate on your fence to pets, because the dog can open the gate and go outside if you don't.

Cats: Make sure you have a food bowl, a small or large bed, a litter box, a scratching post, and something for your cat to play with like a wall dancer. If your Sim is usually busy, I would recommend getting a friend for your cat, because cats get lonely quickly, and if they have another cat to play with, they won't get so lonely. Make sure you put a fence around your house like with a dog, or any other animal so the cat doesn't wander off. Cats require lots of attention, but they aren't much work. Just make sure the food bowl is full and the litter box is clean, and you must have a bathtub like with dogs in case your cat gets fleas. Cats will scratch furniture if they don't have a scratching post, so that's why you need one, unless you want your cat destroying your furniture.

Horses: Make sure you have a horse box, a water trough, and some hay. (Salt licks and Happy Horse Balls are great too, but you don't need them.) You still must have a fence around your house, so when the horse gallops around, they won't run off. Horses need a lot of exercise, so make sure they gallop around regularly, or play with a Happy Horse Ball if you have one. They need some space to run around so don't put too much stuff in your yard if you don't have a big one. Horses get lonely often, like cats, so make sure you pay plenty attention to them or people will come and take all your pets away. After you go for a ride, or enter your horse in a competition, when you get home, make sure to take off their riding gear, because they can get really annoyed if you leave it on too long and they get a buff that decreases their mood. After your horse gallops around a lot, you should clean their hooves and brush them when you can. You should keep some carrots handy because horses LOVE carrots, but you don't need to.
