Use a 3/4 inch pull bar or wrachet tool and take the pressure off the belt tensioner. Then just remove the belt and there should also be a diagram of how to do this on the inside of your engine compartment along the top of the grill somewhere.
Your Explorer has a serpentine belt tensioner which keeps the proper tension on the serpentine belt unless the tensioner has failed.
I believe the Explorer does NOT use a timing belt, but rather a timing chain
The 1999 Ford Explorer has a cam chain not a belt. No maintenance is required.
Timing chain.
Actually , it has a timing CHAIN
what engine??
by hand
The explorer has a timing chain, not a belt.
Never as it does not have a timing belt, it has a chain.Never as it does not have a timing belt, it has a chain.
belt tensioner fell off this morning.I need to know how to install new one.
Some of the issues with the 1998 Ford Explorer are: Vehicle speed control, exterior lighting, other have been recalled for issues with latches, locks and linkages, tires, threads and belt, to name a few.
Change the belt whenever large cracks appear (small cracks are OK) or when the belt starts to fray or shed rubber. As a rule of thumb change the belt every 160.000kms.
