how to change oil pump in a 2000 Chevy silverado 4.3 2 wheel drive truck
Remove 2 skid plates under engine, oil filter is in front of engine above front skid plate with the Hummer logo on it.
yes this is very important to do after all of your oil pump changes which you should do about once every 2 months
remove the oil pan, them pump is located in there, should be held on with 2 bolts, either 10 or 13 mm
You'll need to drop the oil pan to replace the oil pump. There are only 2 or 3 bolts holding the oil pump once the pan is out of the way. The oil pan is the difficult part. The pump is easy. However... Oil pumps seldom fail. If you have low oil pressure it's usually because of excessive rod and/or main bearing wear. Change to a higher viscosity oil before you try to change the oil pump.
drop the oil pan and it's in the rear sump
drain motor oil, remove oil pan , locate oil pump , it has 2 crews. replace oil pump with new one. replace oil pan gasket with new , put oil pan back make sure all screws are tight but not tooo tight . put back motor oil 4 1/2 to 5 quarts .. done check for leaks around oil pan.
The oil pump turns more at higher revs, this is then producing more oil pressure, so when you change gear the revs are in a lower range so the oil pressure drops.
* low engine oil level * plugged oil filter * oil pump is failing * oil pressure sending unit is failing The first 2 are eliminated with a fresh oil change.
oil pump is going to be 1 of 2 places. inside your oil pan, or where your oil filter attaches. never worked on a Dakota but have never seen a pump anywhere else. hope this helps.
the oil pump has a metal pipe going to it, theres a filter on it that's probably clogged. doubt they changed that line. tell them to remove it and change or clean it
the fuel pump is located on the right front of the block its usually held on by 2 bolts, when you change it be carful becasue there is a rod that phisically moves the pump shaft. it can fall out and leak oil everywhere.
