First of all take out the negative cable of the battery. Secondly, there are two terminals on the solenoid, which is the round piece on top of the starter. Take out the connection on the outer nut sticking out. There is another nut besides it towards the inside which you need not touch. Thirdly, take out the two mounting bolts, first the one under then the one on top. The starter will just drop once you take out the second bolt.

The 1989 Honda Prelude had 4x100mm offset. The 1989 Nissan 240sx has a 4x114.3mm offset...so, it will not fit.

On 1989-1994 240SX, Top speed only goes to 115mph due to VSS. 240SX is not exactly known for topspeed but stability, and for the motor Torque since it was actually used for Nissan Trucks. 1997 Nissan Hardtop for ex.

>>"What type of valves does a 1989 Nissan 240SX have?" what exactly are you asking? the factory motor for the 240sx's, years '89-'90, is the KA24E, single cam, 2.4 liters, 12 valve. It has two intake valves, and one output valve.

there isn't a tensioner , there are pulleys that are adjusted by loosening the center bolt then loosening or tightening the bolt on the side.

underneath the intake manifold. it looks like 2 cylinders. a big 1 and a smaller 1 that has a 4 gauge wire connected to it. disconnect the battery 1st before you try and take it out. take off the wire. then the 2 bolts holding the starter to the transmission.

On the 1989-1990 240sx with the KA24E single overhead cam engine the E.C.C.S. is located on the top left side of the engine behind the throttle body and on top of the intake manifold.

Well if you look at the 240sx you will see that although the engine size is the same KA24E the engine on the 240sx is SIDEWAYS.

Yes the ecu will work. First disconnect the battery and connect the new one then reconnect the batter. Start up the 240sx and it should work it not it needs to be diagnoste goggle 1990 240sx ECU CODES FOLLOW THE STEPS AND THAT SHOULD WORK I know cause I'm using a 1992 ECU FROM Nissan Stanza. I was told it's alittle advanced on the horse power side and idle moves quicker.

User Avatar

probably not, since 1989-1990 came with sohc ka24e motor not the dohc ka24de motor in the 1991 and newer versions

From 1989-1994 the 240sx were all the same, however I found out the hard way that some of the parts from different trim models are not 100% compatable. (i.e. parts from the coupe are not direct replacements for the hatchback) but if you are using parts from an 90 hatch with power windows/locks and trying to put them in an 89, the parts SHOULD fit w/o much trouble.
