Hi, You will need a 14mm wrench or long handle socket find the tension pulley by squeezing belt with fingers, put spanner on tension pulley nut then turn it clock wise until belt slackens, then change belt, should take about 2 min to change. Regards Nick. Frontera V6 owner West Sussex
The tensioner is automatic, if it fails to tension the belt enough a new tensioner and belt should be fitted, beware it in not an easy job. Dave.
whats the worst that can happen? you can bend valves depending on how you handle the motor... i just purchased an astra estate 1600i with a snapped cam belt and i replaced the belt and still driving like a dream.
what year is the astra, timing belts in my experience are usually found on the left hand side of the engine block. it conects the cylinder head to the bottom endof the engine via a system of pulleys.
On my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8v engine. The thermostat was on the left hand side of the engine behind the rear timing belt cover were the coolant hose leaves the engine to the radiator. hope this helps
