DANGER---Removing the radiator cap when the engine is hot can result in serious burns. Coolant is combustable, poisenous, and very hot if the engine has been running. You will need to open the cooling system and drain out coolant.Catch the coolant and reuse it or dispose of it properly. Don't let any pets get near the coolant it is very poisenous.
When the engine is cool remove the radiator cap. That will assure the system is not under pressure. Now find the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator and drain out about 1-2 gallons of coolant. If you keep it clean it can be reinstalled later. Remove the two bolts holding the thermostate housing to the engine and tap until the gasket sealer breaks loose. You will find the old thermostate under the housing. Install the new thermostat and reverse the steps above.
