I struggled with this on my 2009 C3 Picasso, so I thought I'd share this. Raise the tailgate. Each light unit is secured by two bolts with star-like heads (are they called Torx, or something?), which I fortunately had a screwdriver for. Remove the screws completely. The unit will stay attached because, hidden underneath the unit (towards the outside edge) are two 'waisted' or 'hour-glass shaped' pins which sit in holes on the car body; one near the top and one near the bottom. It is kind of like a modified press stud, if you know what I mean. So, get your fingers under the bottom lip of the unit, and give it a firm pull in a straight line backward, away from the car and the pins will pop out of their holes. It is a balance between being gentle but with a bit of brute force. Once removed the bulbs are easily replaced. Refitting is the reverse.
Brake lights on can mean no brake fluid, worn out brake pads, faults in the master cylinder. Must take your car to the garage immediately. Worn out brake pads can damage the discs which are expensive to change.

In order to change the brake pads, you must first remove the wheel. Remove the retaining clips and the brake pads will come off. Reverse the process to install the new pads.
