pull the front facia off the heater dials then you find a white box which is to operate the heater dials remove the front from there which is clipped on then there are your bulbs
There are no individual bulbs, just LED's in the dials, and you will have to replace the entire instrument cluster.
The "white" module that holds all the dials and the lights needs to be removed. There are two wire harness's that plug into it in back. Once it is removed, three screws split the module apart. The three bulbs twist in from the rear. This wound up being a lot more involved than I though it would be.
there are two screws above the radio so you have to remove the radio
remove the center knob which controls the fan speed. pull straight out using pliers but be careful not to damage the knob itself. The one bulb in the center lights all the climate control dials. Get a new bulb at vw and replace. Similar size bulbs from parts stores dont work cause the body of the bulb is smaller than the vw bulbs so the don't stay in place well.
