The quickest and easiest way to replace the gaitor is to go along to your local motor factors and ask for a universal gaitor. What you will get is a gaitor which has a split along it's length. You cut the ends of the gaitor off to suit the size of your CV joint and the shaft. You then run the super glue supplied down the seam of the new gaitor, Wrap it around your CV joint, hold the seams together until the glue dries. Remembering of course to cut the old gaitor off first. The whole process should take no more that 10 to 15 minutes and does not involve the removal of any mechanical parts.

pull up gear stick nob, then low end of gaitor pull out of center, middle. first one side then other side
Grab hold of the gaitor at the bottom towards the front. Pull upwards and backwards. it should pull out of the centre console with very little force (Unless a previous owner has broken the clips and glued it in). Once the bottom of the gaitor is released pull it all the way up the gear lever and use a pair of good scissors to cut the plastic tie holding the hole in the top closed. With the clip cut the hole in the top is large enough to pass over the gear knob.
Answerremove the leather gaitor first, by unclipping it from the bottom of the surround..pull the gaitor upwards, so it looks like an inside out umbrella, theres a metal clip at the top, you need to cut that off, pull and twist up at the same time, it will come off with abit of forceremove the old gear knob fittings, put on your new knob and reverse the whole procedure, using a fresh jubilee clip under the gaitor the hold the knob in place...drive.. holding your new knob.IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO CUT THE CLIP. IT CAN BE PRIZED APART ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE KNOB TO COME OFF. JUST USE A POINTY OBJECT TO WIDEN THE CLIP OUT (I SUCESSFULLY USED A FORK).THEN ON THE REVERSE PROCEDURE, SIMPLY SQUEEZE IT BACK TOGETHER WITH A PAIR OF CRIMPERS OR PLIERS.
