The fuel sending unit for your fuel gauge is in the fuel tank with the electric fuel pump
remove fuel tank.
How do I replace the fuel fiter on my 2000 gmc Yukon 5.3 XL?
Drop the gas tank, and buy a new sending unit and becareful of the lines if you live anywhere there is rust....
It is a fuel sending unit located in the fuel tank. The fuel sending unit is attached to the fuel pump. You will know that the sending unit is failing if the fuel guage starts to bounce. Replacing this requires removal of the bed, change the fuel sending unit/pump, replace the bed. It is not a difficult job per se, but requires a lift for the bed or friends to help remove the bed.
Remove the fuel tank and then the sending unit. The fuel pump is on the fuel sending unit bracket.

either that or the gauge, wiring or a connector.
you have to drop the fuel tank and remove the sending unit from the tank and replace fuel pump or wholse sending unit depending on if the pump is sold seperately from the sending unit and as well i suggest you get the book on your vehicle from local parts place because u are dealing with gas and gas vapor

It could be the sending unit which is part of the fuel pump assembly. To replace the sending unit you must change the fuel pump. Fairly easy. I replaced mine by lifting up the bed of the truck rather than removing the fuel tank. Took about 1 hour.
