Gold necklaces once made cannot be changed into anything else. If you want to make a necklace with a cut gem (e.g. a sapphire or emerald necklace etc) you have to have a gold bar, necklace mould, and a cut gem of your choice in your inventory. Use the gold bar with the furnace and select the highlighted necklace that you want to make. If you then want to enchant the necklace to give it special properties select the appropriate spell in your mage book. The same procedure applies with amulets and bracelets too.
