How to remove headlight assembly on 2003 Lexus GX470
Remove the retaining screws from the headlight assembly. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the headlight. The headlight will come out. Reverse the process to install the new headlight.
1. Open the SC300 hood for access to the back of the headlight assemblies. Then trace the wires to the faulty headlight. 2. Unsnap the wiring connector at the back of the headlight assembly by raising the locking tab up and pulling the wiring harness off the back of the headlight. Scoot the wiring to the side. 3. Now, pull the dust cover out of the assembly by pulling it by hand. This will grant you access to the back of the headlight assembly. 4. After that, twist the headlight counterclockwise to free it from the assembly. Pull it straight out. Dispose of it once it is out of the assembly. 5. Next, push in the new headlight. Ensure that the tabs on the headlight match up with the notches on the headlight assembly. Turn the headlight clockwise to lock it in the assembly. Tug the headlight to ensure it is locked in properly. 6. Finally, push the dust cover back onto the back of the headlight assembly. Plug in the headlight wires. The wires will lock in place once it is pushed on far enough.
The headlight assembly does not need to be removed in order to change a light bulb. Take hold of the light bulb connector. Push the connector in and turn to the left at the same time. The light bulb will come out.
you can go to a auto shop and buy a rx300 bulb and after you can get someone to remove the headlight and you can remove the bulb and put the new one.
The entire headlight assembly must come out to access. Usually there are three plastic clips per side.
On the backside of the headlamp assembly you will see large plastic disc with fins sticking off of it. You need to grab this plastic disc in turn it counterclockwise to disengage the tabs and remove it. This can be fairly stiff due to the O-ring sticking on this cover plate. Once this is removed you will see the ball assembly that is held in with a steel spring clip. You have to push down on the one end of the spring clip and unhook from the latch and swivel it out-of-the-way. This will allow the bulb to be removed from the headlight assembly. Depending on your accessories and plastic shielding that you have not removed that is the hardest part of getting to the back of the headlights sometimes. As long as the headlight are turned off, you do not have to disconnect the battery.
You need to remove the side marker first. Remove the screw and pull hard perpendicular to the car to remove the side marker. Once that's removed you can see 2 screws on bottom of the headlight/foglight assembly and one screw on the top of the assembly as well as one nut on the side of the light assembly. Remove those screws and nut and you can pull out the whole headlight/foglight assembly. Remove the connector by pulling it straight out. Remove the rubber gasket and the spring lock. Assembly is the opposite.
I don't know about 95, but on the 94, you have to take out the whole light assembly from the front. Take off the cover inside the hood from the top, expose the headlight bolts, remove the headlight. Good lucK!
adjust headlight
If I remember correctly, there is a rubber cover on the back side of the headlight assembly (under the hood). Once that is pulled back, there is a a wire clip that holds the bulb in place. Once the wire clip is dis-engaged, the bulb will slide out of the socket/holder.
