Hi,on my 307 it's a plastic housing & bloody hard to undo-impossible by hand, but I used an oil filter wrench (with care!!) & it worked fine.Hope this helps.
According to Peugeot it is 72,000 miles, but the Haynes manual suggests changing it at 36,000 miles.
yes you need to buy a haynes manual
The timing marks on a Peugeot 406 HDI 2.0 is on the front of the crank pulley. You can get a diagram by purchasing a Haynes Repair Manual.
Haynes manual states 1.7 litres
245 lbs in haynes
In a Haynes workshop manual.
Best idea is to buy a Haynes Manual. It goes through the whole thing...
Per Haynes Ford Ranger Pickups Repair Manual: Steps for removal are: (1)open the hood; (2)unscrew the retainer from the back of the headlight; (3)pull the bulb socket out of the headlight assembly; (4)pull out the housing clips and remove the housing from the grille opening;(5)NOTE: on later models, there are only two clips that are pulled up to release the headlight housing. They are located on the back of the housing - one on each side. After pulling them up, simply move the headlight housing forward from the vehicle. (6)the steps for installing it back are the reverse of the removal steps.
This is a BIG job. I sugest taking it to a garage inless you have a lift and special tools. Clutch change is graded three spanners by Haynes difficult but not impossible - since you ask the question here I guess that means you don't even have a Haynes manual so probably are best taking it to a garage. Peugeot estimate 4 hours for gearbox removal and refitting - make that 8-12 for the average DIY mechanic doing it for the first(hopefully only) time. Try a clutch clinic. Given the age of the car is it worth it?
