This job is pretty direct. You get at the bulbs from under the hood.
First you need to remove the plastic fan shroud, which runs across
the front of the car over the radiator. This thing is held on by little
plastic clippys. You have to GENTLY pry them up and out of the holes
in which they sit. I can almost guarantee you're going to break one or
two of them.
Once the shroud is off, you'll see two bolts on each headlight housing.
removing those bolts will let you remove the housings into the engine
compartment.
On the back of the housings, are the sockets that hold the bulbs.
They are held into the housing by a metal ring that twists out of the housing. The electrical connectors on the backs of the sockets just unplug. This will become real evident.
Toss the old bulbs, put new bulbs into the sockets and plug in the electrical
connector. Screw the sockets back into the housings. Bolt the housings back
in and replace the shroud.
NOTE: I see that your Sunfire is just a year newer than mine. Your headlights
are probably hazed over like mine are. This can be fixed, but that's another story.
When it comes to replacing bulbs, don't make the same mistake that I made by
buying the El Cheapo'est bulbs you can find. They aren't bright enough to shine
through that haze very well. I had to go back to the store and buy brighter ones
and do the job all over again. Buy lots of LUMENS! Get the halogen bulbs in higher
lumen ratings than the stock bulbs.

make sure you fill up your headlight fluid after you change the bulb
Which bulb, exactly?
are you trying to change the entire headlight assembly? or just the bulb.
The headlight of yourÊ2003 Sunfire is probably dimming because the bulb is dying. ÊYou will need to have this bulb replaced.
To change the license plate light on a Pontiac Sunfire, first remove the cover over the bulb with a small screwdriver. Gently push on the bulb and turn 1/4 turn to remove the old bulb. Insert the new bulb and snap in the cover.
two bolts on the top of the plastic housing - lift the plastic headlight out and unscrew the headlight from the bottom of the light- replace the bulb and be sure to get the plastic pins in the right spot before you bolt the headlight back in place.
You must first remove the trunk door facia. (This is the part with the "Pontiac" lights in it.) Then you can get to the bulb to replace it.
Check ground circuit Make sure bulb is not burned out
To change the headlight bulb on a Pontiac Wave it is good to remember to not touch the new bulb with the fingers. Gently remove the headlight lamp cover (it should pop off after a gentle pull). Turn the old bulb and pull to remove it. Then, using the small plastic gripper (sold where headlights are sold) insert the new bulb and turn 1/4 turn. Replace the headlight lamp cover.
remove the plastic shield and unbolt two scres and the entire lens comes out don't touch the glass of the new bulb
I just had to change out the front blinker bulb on my 97 sunfire gt, and as far as I know, there were no huge revisions between the 97 and 98 model year, so here's what you'll need to do. First of all, take out the headlight above the blinker. Your manual should tell you how to do this. Then, simply reach through the hole you've just created to losen the nuts holding the light bulb casing in place, pull it out, and change the bulb. Simple!
No, you do not have to remove the battery. Just remove the 2 bolts (1/2 socket) on the top and pull out the whole assembly. Then undo the big plastic nut and remove bulb and redo steps to install.
