Pitch on a violin can be altered in two ways.

  1. You can depress your fingers on the string that you are bowing on. The closer to the bridge you bring your fingers, the higher the pitch of the sound. Also, tuning your violing alters the pitch similarly.
  2. You can also change the string that you bow on. The violin typically has four strings, G, D, A, and E. G is the lowest string, and E is the highest. The G string is the string that is furthest to the left (for right-hand bowing violins), and the E string is furthest to the right.

If you mean tuning the violin then you would have to use the peg (those black things screwed to the scroll) or the fine tuners (the small black screws near the bottom of your violin). The pegs change the pitch of the violin dramatically. It doesn't take much turning on the violin to change the notes. The fine tuners are exactly what they sound like, they tune the string but not as much as the pegs. The pegs are when you hear the note is close to the open string. Usually the note wouldn't be exactly in tune, thus you would have to use the fine tuners.

Volume (loudness) is altered according to how quickly one draws the bow over the strings, and how much pressure is applied. Pitch is altered by the position of one's fingers on each of the strings. The pegs at the top of the violin are used to tune the instrument.

You press harder or softer with the bow or pluck harder or softer with your finger. You can also add machines to the viola that make it softer or louder.

How do you change pitch on a violen?

There are two ways to change the pitch of the violin: 1. The pegs on the violin can be turned back and forth in order to tune the violin to a specific key. The first string is tuned in G, second - D, third - A, and the fourth - E. Some electric violins come with 5 strings, the fifth coming before G and tuned in the key of C. 2. Below the bridge of the violin rests fine tuning equipment which will make minor adjustments to the pitch.
