There is a set of tools located in the spare tire area. There is a tool that looks like a long socket with a pivoting "T" handle on it. Look under the hood just behind where the head light assembly is located and you will see a set of gears with a bolt head sticking out. The T-handle tool is used to unlock and push out the headlamp assembly. Same on the left hand side. Check on the VW Vortex web site forums.vwvortex.com for a full procedure with photos.
