it is more complicated than changing a Timing Belt
1 make sure to have some jack stands or wood blocks to suspend engine
2 remove a)valve cover (top and lateral), b)put engine on No 1 on TDC, c) mark camshaft as a safety.
3 the guide pins of the camshafts should be at I: 9 oclok E: 12 oclock when viewing from front of engine. Actually Intake is about 8:50 a few deg. below 9.
4 remove engine support that stands front of No1 piston (pasgr. side)
5 be sure to suspend egine safely
6 remove, and, or, disconnect: belts, water pump, chain tensioners (both), damper. drain engine of coolant
7 using blocks or stands to suspend engine (I leaned against the gearbox and I did fine) remove the cross member disconnecting it previously from engine, disconnect the exhaust pipe
8 remove oil pan and oil sump (draining previously)
9 remove, all I mean all the bolts that holds the chain cover carefully they are quite hidden
10 if it is done carefully a few hammering with a heavy piece of wood , it shoud pop off
11 assuming that engine was not rotated (No1 at TDC I: 9ocklok E: 12 oclock), remove both chains an their guides and replace ( new chains, new tensioners, new guides, new chaindrives)
12 reassembly should be in a reverse order taking care to use RTV sealer sparringly in order to prevent coolant or oil leaks.
PS: special care should be taken with the gasket of the cylinder head, when reassembly.
please accept my appologies for rusty English
Never. 1995 Nissan altimas have 2 timing chains. Not belts.
Timing chains are designed to last the life of the engine unlike timing belts which require replacement at certain intervals.
Timing chains are designed to last the life of the engine and are normally replaced during a complete engine rebuild.
no they just have timing belts no chains
no it has 2 timing chains...an upper and a lower
No both the V6 and four cylinder motors of the 2007+ Nissan Altima have timing chains.
Timing belts should be changed approximately every 80,000 miles.Check with Nissan about your specific vehicle. Several Nissan cars and trucks do not use belts, They use chains and almost never have to be replaced.
First I dont think nissan sentra has a timing belt, I think it has a timing chain. I would go to www.TimingChainOrBelt.comto find out if it has a timing belt or chain. Are timing belts or chains better? I would say timing chains last longer.www.TimingChainOrBelt.com
They have chains mate
Nissan switched from a timing belt to timing chains on the V6 VQ35DE motor between the 2004 and 2005 model years
I am in the process of rebuilding a 1993 Nissan altima. The 93 - 97 having timing chains. It has an upper and a lower timing chain. Hope this helps
Timing chains are designed to last the life of the engine. Unless it becomes noisy it does not need replacing until the engine is rebuilt.
