I have an Olds Achieva 96, which uses the same platform as Grand Am.The way to change Transmission Fluid is to take off the bottom drain pan, about 20 bolts all around it. While you're at it, change the filter and gasket too, which are sold in Autozone as a kit.
Further - refilling fluid is a chore. Refill is directly below the master cylinder on the 4cylinder. You have to move a wiring harnass to see a red cap. Just unscrew it and wala. Also, need to have a funnel with a long spout @ 18" at least - preferrable flexable to manuver through everything. Fill it up.
Remove transmission oil pan Replace fluid, filter, and gasket
When changing fluids in a car, it is important to know the fluid capacity of the car. A 1999 Pontiac Grand AM holds about 5 quarts of transmission fluid.
The 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix typically requires about 12 quarts of automatic transmission fluid for a complete transmission fluid change, which includes both the transmission and the torque converter. However, for a fluid change without a complete flush, you may need around 4 to 6 quarts. Always refer to the owner's manual for the most accurate specifications.
what is the part no# for a replacement transmission filter, for a 2001 Pontiac gtp grand prix . Also how much transmission fluid does it take to change.thank you Tim
DextronIII
Dexron III automatic Transmission fluid should be used in a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM. This can be picked up at almost any general store.
When changing the transmission fluid of a car it is important to know its fluid capacity. The 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix holds between 7 and 8 quarts of fluid.
if you have waited until you have transmission problems to change the fluid, you have waited too late...........
dexron 3
If your 1993 Pontiac Grand Am will not shift into part, the transmission is probably seized up. The first step is ensuring the transmission fluid is not too low.
On the top of the transmission there is a red cap. that cap comes off and you add fluid through there.
you need to change the fluid. my 99 grand am does that, it feels like you're shifting a manual from 1st to 2nd.
