Unscrew the housing from the sheet metal and remove the bulb socket from the back of the lens housing. Replace the bulb and re-attach.
Check if the default is with the switch which is on the upper side of the brake pedal and adjust to confirm if it can work. If not, test the light top to check if the power reaches the brake light socket and go all the length of the wire in case of any damage.
The brake light switch is located under the dash. It is connected to the upper arm on the Brake pedal

To change the upper brake light on a 2005 GMC Yukon, first, open the rear hatch and locate the cover for the brake light assembly. Grab the cover over the third brake light and pull towards you ( away from the rear window) the plug is right there just twist to take bulb out
