Cant in the 2004s..you can in the newer 2005 and laters with the sports shift in the middle console. The 2004 3.8 and 3.4 L have an overcam shaft and differential that are pretty much set the way they are. You would have to take off the restricter cap in your engine (which is illegal) and will burn your gas up and even then your timing belt will most likely burn up as well...Not a good idea...The impalas were made to be big slightly fuel efficient front wheel drive cars.
