You can change the name of your Pokemon by going to the name rater's house in slateport in front of the contest hall. If you choose a Pokemon for him to rate the name of he will ask if you want him to suggest a better name, then you can type in the name you want.

If you have it for wii, you scroll over the name, click it, and then click add new player. If you have a kinect, you cant change it.
