You'll have to sign out the person using the second controller. If that person isn't using a profile, sign him/her into any profile, then sign him/her back out.
You could also try backing out to the title screen and pressing start again, but I haven't tried it.

∙ 12y agoPresmuably just press "Pause" and then press "Save", unless the game has an autosave feature, in which case you will have to wait for this to kick in :)
