You have to use the key that is built into the remote. The key fits in, then you push the key in like a button, that will cause the trunk to open. Because the trunk is automatic open and close, it will be quite stiff opening it up. Don't worry it will not harm the trunk.

How about hooking up jumper cables, which can be done under the hood, and let the alternator of the charging vehicle provide the unlocking power?
