need to know if it is and automatic or a standard shift transmission Automatic has no dipstick to check trans fluid.
The 1996 Chevy Camaro automatic transmission has a fluid capacity of 7.3 quarts. You can check the automatic transmission fluid level with the transmission dipstick.
i have a 97 Chevy camaro i need to know what kind of transmission came in it
The 2002 Chevy Cavalier has a sealed transmission. On the front of the transmission there is a 11mm bolt that sticks out from the side. Loosen it, if ATF comes out, it's full, if not, take that cap back off and add some more until it comes out of the check plug (it's very easy to miss! look carefully, driver side, 11mm bolt protruding from side)
Check the dipstick, it will tell what fluid to use in that automatic transmission.
The Transmission Fluid Check bolt is in the front right part of the Transmission Pan. This is in regards to a 1998 Chevy Cavalier (since I have one myself) and may not be correct for any other year. This bolt is just to check the fluid level is correct and will not drain the entire Transmission fluid reservoir, you must remove the pan to remove the transmission fluid.
If you have an automatic transmission, check with the engine warm and running, The dip stick is located on the passenger side rear of the engine.

On the 2.2 liter engine there should be a dipstick coming up through the engine bay from the trans, but unfortunately there is not.I was told that as long as it's not leaking then it's fine, but there is no dipstick.
