Mercedes would say main dealer can only check this is not so Mercedes sell a dip stick from stock at about £54.00 bloody jokers i got a madeup one for £10.00 on eBay open bonnet at the back you will find a pipe with a cap on it remove this then run the engine at idle insert the dip stick you will see a mark at the bottom of the dip stick make sure it is spot on otherwise you may start to get the gearbox running rough also Mercedes say that its a sealed for life box again wrong have the box oil and filter changed it will do wonders for your box and avert a massive gearbox bill

You put the oil in the gearbox
The W140 does not come with a transmission dip stick, you will need assistance from an auto service centre.
Down the gearbox dipstick hole. If no gearbox dipstick then system is sealed and best left to a dealership
change at least every 25,000 auto transmission oil does not last as long as manual gearbox oil, all to do with friction and heat in an auto box, pays to replace filter as well
Depends on gearbox ( auto or manual ). Front of gearbox a little way up near to bellhousing. Requires hex key.
There is no level indicator on the gearbox. The oil is checked by topping it up.
