Some hard drive perfomance can be improved through special utilities. Check the manufacture website for such software. I know that Western Digital has software to check and fix your hard drive.
Presumably by size you mean capacity? The BIOS determines how much hard drive memory your computer can address so if you are upgrading your hard drive I suggest you check Toshiba's website and download the latest BIOS for your machine.
no a hard drive has a much faster access time...
How many gigabytes you can download on to your computer matter only how much free space is on your hard drive. For windows xp and below go follow these steps. My Computer - Right Click on your Hard drive- Properties- Then you see how much free space you have. For Vista if you go under my computer and you can look at your hard drive and it will show you.
If it is an external hard drive, then the computer should be able to take it. However, if it is an internal hard drive, you will have to check the system requirements of your computer.
You should check your laptop manufacturer's website for details on how to replace the hard drive. If the drive is user-replaceable they should have the schematics on how to do so. When you replace your drive, remember to get a drive of the same speed. If you get a faster one, you might cause too much heat build-up in the case.
Only as fast as its CPU. Doesn't matter the size of the hard drive - the hard drive does not determine processor speed.
