After about 2 days shine a torch or a candle light in a dark room above the egg, if you see a red spot it is likely alive, after 11 days do the same thing and there should be viens that you should be able to see. I don't think sitting on the eggs makes them hatch, but the down in their feathers keps the eggs warm and therefore the ducklings alive!
