Open the hood and locate the dipstick for the oil. Now, look around and find the dipstick for the Transmission Fluid. Now that you know what you are going to look at, start the engine, and let it idle in park. Pull the the transmission dipstick and check the level, being aware that there are two indicated 'full' marks, one for hot, and one for cold. This check should be done with the vehicle on a level surface. If more fluid is needed, it goes in the same hole that the dipstick does, so you will probably need one of those funnels with the really long neck. Be careful not to overfill the transmission.
If there is no A/T dipstick then it is sealed unit and you do not have to check it. If it is a manual transmission you check it by removing a plug on the upper side of the transmission and sticking your finger in the hole. If you touch lube it is full.
