Pull the dipstick. (Not the one for engine oil, but the one for the trans.) There is writing on it that says how to check. This is for auto trans. For manual trans I don't know. Probably, you want to warm things up, drive it a bit, stop but leave engine running, make sure you shift into each gear position a few seconds, and then put it in park, leaving the engine running. Pull the dipstick, wipe it off, put it in and pull it out and read the level. You also chould check the color and smell of the fluid. It does not want to be dark and burned smelling. Touch the fluid (carefully) with your finger. It does not want to be too hot. Be careful adding fluid. Do it a little at a time, and make sure you see a valid reading on the dipstick, as too much fluid is as bad as too little. Make sure you use the right fluid for the vehicle. Again, the writing on the dipstick should tell you what to use. If you check the level with the engine not running, you will get a high level, which should go back down to normal when you start and purge. This is correct operation.
check the trans fluid.
These are designed to be a mechanic only inspection.
You should change all trans fluid on any vehicle at least every 50,000 miles. Even less in some cases. Refer to your owners manual.

What engine? It does make a difference!
Mopar ATF+4
Find a road with a "measured mile" and check it.
Not sure if you are just trying to top it up or if you are trying to check it. Just to let you know there is no access as your trans is a completely sealed unit. Hope this helps you out.
Down the trans dipstick tube.
The question is how to check only... For the auto trans. there should be a dipstick there, just like the one for oil but different color (check your owners manual). vehicle should be driven at least 5 to 10 miles and then check the trans fluid to get the acurate result. the fluid must be maintained between the notches at the indicated operating tempereture... Ron ================================================================================= if its not leaking......don't, but if you insist on checking, get the trans to operating temp. remove the 5mm Allen plug in the trans pan (not the 14mm hex!) a little fluid should come out. if so, leave it alone. if nothing comes out, get some WS trans fluid (from the dealer) and use the method for the 2005 on this same page. they are the same trannies. =============================================================================== The transmission is sealed in the 2006 Sequoia. Don't look for a dip-stick. You won't find one.
you use the trans dipstic tube to add or fill with fluid.
If it is like the Sunfire you have to have it lifted and pull a plug on the side of the tranny to check the level, and if the fluid does not trickle out you need to put more in until it does. I recommend going to a shop and just having the trans. fluid flushed for ~100-150
