The question is a bit vague, did you want to know about if you should clean the ears? or how to go about cleaning? So to answer both, yes dogs need their ears cleaned. There are several methods.
If you are not comfortable in doing so yourself you can take the dog to your vet or even a dog grooming shop. To clean the dogs ear you can use cotton balls, or a soft cloth and a q-tip but extreme caution is needed for the q-tip.
There are cleaning solutions available at your local grocery store or pet store, or you can use hydrogen peroxide. Moisten the cotton ball and gently wipe the inside of the ear. Do not go deep, it will hurt much like cleaning your own ear! A small amount of dirt is normal. If you see yellow or mass amounts of dark brown discharge, it is likely the dog has an ear infection. Also while inspecting the ear feel for excess heat and look for redness. These are also indicators that the dog will need to seek veterinary care. Dog ear aches hurt much like humans so do not procrastinate in taking your dog in for a check up if you see signs of an infection. Often times a simple antibiotic and regular cleaning solution will clear it up. Laura with dogologie.com

Choose an acidifying ear cleaner for use in dogs. Hold up the ear flap and drizzle the ear cleaner into the ear canal (use a fair amount) then rub the ear base to produce a squishing sound. Try to keep the ear cleaner in the ear for a full minute so it can loosen debris and acidify the ear canal. Afterward, let the dog shake. When the pet is done shaking you can wipe anything you can see with a soft cloth or kleenex. You can use a Q-tip to get into the nooks and crannies that you can see but do not stick it down in the ear canal. If there is a significant amount of debris in the ear canals, please see your Veterinarian as ear infections are common in Goldens. Routine ear cleaning (2 times monthly) with an acidifying cleaner can prevent many infections. Also, use cleaner after bathing or swimming.

You can use baby wipes, just make sure to wipe up the moisture with a cotton ball or cotton pad. Any vet will tell you that Q-tips are NOT recommended for dogs' ears (they're not recommended for human ears either). Use a large, soft ball of cotton and really clean deep into the ear. Their ear canals are different than ours, so you will not harm the ear drum. Ask your vet at your next visit to show you the best way to clean the ears.

If you prefer not to use baby wipes, you can buy a cleaning solution from the pet store or your vet. Again, just make sure to wipe out any moisture with a dry piece of cotton afterwards.

Never put any item into a dogs ear, you may cause physical damage, get some drops from a vet and ask for advice there.
